As college students, we all know that giving away the little bit of money we have isn't something we take lightly. In addition, the effort to raise money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Children's Miracle Network is meant to be a charitable outreach to others, NOT A CHORE. For that reason we've provided this quick and easy guide to support you in your fundraising efforts so that DM@GT as a whole can best help those in need.
LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN
This is the easiest way for you to reach your goals. Simply log on to the Dance Marathon website using your Georgia Tech Prism Account and enter addresses of friends, family, relatives, etc. The Steering Committee will send your contacts a letter explaining the event, it's cause, and requesting support of the Children's Miracle Network in your name and at absolutely no cost to you! You can do this at your own convenience or join the letter writing campaign towards the end of the fall semester.
"CANNING"
Throughout the fall semester morale team leaders will set dates to "can" in front of local stores. Setting aside an hour or two on a weekend isn't too much of a burden and you'll be surprised how generous our community can be. If you can't find the time to can at the stores, passing a change jar around at your next organization meeting or chapter in the name of a good cause will also generate tremendous results.
TEAMING UP FOR THE KIDS (UGA FOOTBALL GAME)
For the second year in a row DM@GT will be "Teaming up for the kids" with UGA's Dance Marathon. We are looking for volunteers to "can" for donations and hand out information about Children's Miracle Network to tailgaters outside the stadium. The game this year is in Athens on November 25th. Our goal is to get 100 students from Tech to match the huge numbers UGA always has volunteer. Plus after the game we'll pack a local restaurant/bar and cheer Tech to victory! This is a great opportunity to knock out your fund raising and have fun getting to know the members of your morale team so make sure to mark your calendar!
PERSONAL REQUESTS
As effective as the letter writing campaign has proven to be in the past, there is no more immediate return as asking your friends, family, and relatives face-to-face. Approaching any of these people and explaining the reason you are participating in Dance Marathon can be much more effective than an impersonal letter.
SPONSORSHIPS
Believe it or not, asking representatives of businesses, your church, professors, etc. to sponsor you (partially or fully) is one of the most effective means of raising funds, especially when you consider asking persons who are more able to give freely. If nothing else, it will give you a chance to meet and get to know your professors better. The steering committee would be glad to get you brochures or other information about CMN to help in your efforts, simply let us know what you would like.
WATCH YOUR SPENDING
Most college students eat out several times a week. If just one time a week, you decided to instead use your meal plan, or eat Ramen (albeit not the tastiest alternative), you could set aside several dollars of saving each time. By February you can easily save enough money to qualify as a dancer for DM '07! ($30)
